Templars background

Templars Antiques was established in 1970 by Joe Meschede, specialising in English 18th and 19th Century furniture, paintings and silver. Joe was considered the doyenne of antique dealers in South Africa. In 1975 he was elected president of the South African Antique Dealers Association.

In the early 1980s, Templars Antiques expanded to include both local and international portfolio collections. In the mid 1990's, the company initiated an association with Custodian Superintendent, a group of specialists dedicated to preserving art around the world. This gave the company unique access to iconic pieces of art in private collections and auctions worldwide.

In 2011 the family decided to open a new showroom in the heart of Sandton. The showroom is set on a private estate near the Hyde Park shopping centre.

Our aim is to specifically offer the South African design enthusiast some of the iconic home collections we are able to obtain through our international network.
